Children using the Internet present not only a danger to themselves but a risk to your security. In this 90-second video, cybersecurity specialist Adam Levin, author of SWIPED, Founder of CyberScout and Co-Founder of Credit.com, shares advice for households with kids or grandchildren who use your devices or network.
Here's a summary of his tips:
- Make sure you have security on any mobile devices you allow children to play on
- At home, set up a network that's solely for the kids to use
- Use VPN security or other software to protect you and your network from their online activity
- Consider using one of the software programs that monitors kids' Internet and social media activity

I can tell you firsthand that your children or grandchildren can be weapons of mass destruction, when it comes to your home network, or your mobile devices.
Make sure you have security on your mobile devices before you hand it to a child who's making you a little crazy at a restaurant. You'll do anything to have them focus on something. At home, even set up a little network that's their own network. So that if something goes wrong, it doesn't bleed into your network. You want to do that.
Just be very careful when you say, "Hey kiddo, use my computer." The other thing, just one sec. The other thing too is that a lot of people don't realize that let's say, in the world we live in now, you are defined by your searches. Including if someone clicks on the wrong link, and child pornography ends up on your computer. As a result, that's why it's important to have the right security software on there.
Use VPNs, all that kind of stuff, because you don't want this stuff coming back on you. You want to protect your kids from themselves. Also, it's important to know and there are programs available that will monitor the activity of your children on social medial, especially when it's occurring within your household. You might want to do that. Yes ma'am.
